Depending on the type of heavy-duty equipment you are operating and where you are working, hardwood mats are essential in order to prevent accidents. From machine damage to injured workers, a variety of things can happen that can be disastrous for your company. Without using hardwood mats, you are neglecting basic safety concerns for both your workers and the equipment you rely on. And that’s exactly what happened recently to a company in Germany.
Earlier this month, a five axle crane overturned in the town of Bautzen, Germany, during a simple unloading operation. The crane was being operated on a patch of land outside of a recently built home, and no hardwood mats were in use. Once the crane began unloading some materials the rear outrigger began sinking into the ground. This caused the entire crane to overturn onto its side. Fortunately, the workers in the area were able to get out of the way, and only minimal damage was caused to the property.
Despite the fact that little damage was caused by this incident, it could have been much worse. When a crane is operating on ground that is unstable these types of issues are bound to happen without the use of hardwood mats. If you are working with heavy duty machinery like cranes on unstable ground do not risk working without a hardwood mat, otherwise this could happen to you.
